Peking University is a comprehensive(ˌkämpriˈhensiv) and national(ˈnaSHənəl) key university. The campus(ˈkampəs), known as “Yan Yuan”(the garden(ˈgärdn) of Yan), is situated at Haidian District(ˈdistrikt) in the western(ˈwestərn) suburb(ˈsəbərb) of Beijing, with a total area(ˈe(ə)rēə) of 2,743,532 square(skwe(ə)r) metres(ˈmētər) (or 274 hectares(ˈhekˌte(ə)r)). It stands near to the Yuanmingyuan Garden and the Summer Palace(ˈpalis).

Peking University is proud(proud) of its outstanding faculty(ˈfakəltē), including(inˈklo͞odiNG) 53 members(ˈmembər) of the Chinese Academy(əˈkadəmē) of Sciences(ˈsīəns) (CAS), 7 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering(ˌenjəˈni(ə)riNG) (CAE), and 14 members of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).
